Markets for the Young Writer
by
C. Hope Clark
One of the questions endlessly asked to a writer is: "When did you started
writing?". And the answer, almost always, is: "I've been writing as long as I
can remember".
This means that now also, in this very moment, there are boys and girls writing
poems, articles, tales, novels…Will they continue to write, and someday will be
asked that same question?
This is the hope of we all.
But there's one writer, who have not limited herself to hope, even if her name--
C. Hope Clark has compiled an ebook, "Markets for the Young Writer", that
represents a valuable treasure for those who are young, likes to write, wants to
stretch their talent and publish.
The book opens with several articles. The Author explains, for example, how to
write and judge the first draft, how to avoid "borrowing" the job of other
writers, how to write a winning query... A theme repeatedly stressed is the
existence of scams, and the way to recognize and avoid them.
But the true heart of the book, its "raison d'être", is the listing of contests,
websites and magazines to which submit articles, poems, tales.
Ho, another one of the lists you can find fully on the 'net? No, not at all.
Hope presents 176 entries -undoubtedly she researched many more-, each with
internet address, minimal age of submission, accepted material, eventual
deadlines, fees and prizes.
Yes, if you want, you can research the 'net yourself, read pages and more pages of
guidelines, evaluate the good- and badness of the proposals, post questions in
the discussion groups, e-mail writers asking for opinion about that site, or
that, or that... An endless job, a job that will eat up the time reserved for
writing, too.
It's much more simple -and smart- to use results already researched. Such as
those presented in the book of C. Hope Clark. A very useful book, who deserves
two "e-thumbs" up!
A last remark. "Markets for the Young Writer" is a book completed in itself, but
someway is also part of the site "Funds for Writers", that nonstop presents the
writers with markets, magazines and opportunities for submitting. If writing and
publishing interest you, have a serious look at this site also.
And, of course, good luck to all of you!
